Eventually it's discovered that Annabelle's mother, Esther, has been attempting to communicate with Annabelle's spirit using dark occultic rituals. This brings forth a demonic entity which possesses a doll and unleashes terror on the unsuspecting orphan girls. Eventually, leading to who or what becomes the Annabelle doll as featured in the other Conjuring universe films.
Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)

Incantation (2022)
Directed by Kevin Ko, Incantation is a Taiwanese supernatural horror movie starring Tsai Hsuan-yen, Huang Sin-ting, Kao Ying-hsuan, Sean Lin and RQ. It was released in the year 2022.
Incantation follows a woman who struggles to protect her daughter from a curse tied to a forbidden ritual she performed year earlier. The woman, Li, discovers the horrifying consequences of the occult ceremony through a found-footage tape which documents when the vengeful spirit was released. With time running out, Li races to save her daughter and break the curse before it kills them both.
Hereditary (2018)
Directed and written by Ari Aster, Hereditary stars Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd, and Gabriel Bryne. It was released in the year 2018.
Hereditary is a psychological horror film that focuses on Annie Graham and her family when they first attend the funeral of Annie's mother. Unable to deal with the grief, she joins a support group and one of the members indicates that a seance might be the answer to deal with some unresolved issues. As the film progresses it becomes more and more apparent to Annie and her family that their house may be a site for Occultist practice and worship. This, of course, leads to all sorts of bizarre scenarios and possessions along the way.
