About Deanna Troi
Deanna Troi (or, Counsellor Troi) is a half-human, half-betazoid woman from the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV show. Portrayed by British actress, Marina Sirtis, Deanna Troi has remarkable psionic empathic abilities which allow her to tap into the feelings of friends and foe. Throughout most of the series, Troi holds the rank of lieutenant commander. However, in the seventh season, Troi takes the bridge officer's examination and is promoted to the rank of commander, but continues as counsellor.
As ship's chief counsellor, Deanna Troi is able to explore many different facets of the ship and these include relationships. In fact, she's often called on by various members of the crew to help them navigate their own psychotherapy and this is where she comes into her own as a character.
