Legendary Polish Black Metal Band BATUSHKA plan to launch into the Next Phase of their Career with a Name Change. Here’s what we know:
Since their formation in 2015, Batushka has continuously pushed the boundaries of black metal, incorporating Slavic spirituality, orthodox chanting, and deep atmospherics into their music. Their debut album, Litourgiya, became an instant cult classic, widely hailed for its bold experimentation and religious symbolism. Something the Black Metal genre had arguably been missing for quite some time. Over the years, they have amassed a loyal following, enthralled by their mysterious stage presence, complete with monks’ robes, incense, and iconography.
For those unaware of the band, they are known for their intense live shows that blend crushing black metal with the haunting ritualism of Eastern Orthodox liturgy. Batushka's live show has been a distinct visual and auditory experience for metal fans both in Europe and all around the world.
AND NOW, after nearly a decade of redefining the Metal genre, they will be playing their final performance as BATUSHKA before they undergo a name change. This performance is planned to be an unforgettable night filled with the type of energy, emotion, and raw power that has come to define their sound. Fans can expect an immersive setlist that spans their career, accompanied by a full ritualistic performance to honour the band's legacy.
It’s one last ceremony which will be held in Melbourne, Australia on December 13th, 2024 before they release their next album on January 3rd, 2025 - as Patriarkh. Supporting them will be Aussie bands HYBRID NIGHTMARES and MAMMON’S THRONE.
Now, whether the band will use this as an opportunity to road test some new material is anyone’s guess but their latest single WIERSZALIN III - which is available on YouTube is a great example of what to expect from their next album which is a name I can’t pronounce but I’ll put it in the show notes. It’s haunting, dark, foreboding and really hits home with that European orthodox meets black metal experimentation that they’re infamously known for.
If you’re on YouTube thanks for watching, if youre listening to this on Spotify then you’re about to hear WIERSZALIN III so don’t go away. And to all the rest of you - please like and subscribe for the latest news and updates.
