German Folk Metal Band SUBWAY TO SALLY have teamed-up with power metal band WARKINGS on their latest single. Here’s what we know:
It was 2023. SUBWAY TO SALLY had just released what was thought to be their last album “Himmelfahrt.” After 30 years of relentless touring, the band members wanted to close the chapter of the band and go out on a high note. But history had other ideas.
Himmelfahrt had struck a chord with fans and critics alike. They were starting to blow up, becoming bigger than ever, performing on a tour where almost every performance was sold out. It was a momentous time for them. It quickly became clear that this fourteenth album was not to be their last.
Now, with their fifteenth album “Post Mortem,” about to be released, the band have taken a look at what Folk Metal looks like and should evolve into. Songs like "Wunder", "Nero", "Lumpensammler", and "Die Erde bebt" offer the band’s signature soundscape while exploring socially critical themes without moralizing. But it’s their new single and collaboration with Warkings, “Stahl Auf Stahl”, which pushes the limits of Folk Metal into this melodic Power Metal ballad. A song featuring dual vocals and that emphasises themes of invincibility and an unbreakable sense of unity. A unity which will see the two bands share the stage this December on the Eisheilige Nacht-tour.
SUBWAY TO SALLY had this to say about WARKINGS:
“Their intense touring activities caught our attention some time ago, and we’re confident they will ignite a true metal firestorm and make the Eisheilige Nacht an unforgettable experience with their show. This collaboration quickly led to the idea of a joint song, which we wrote and, of course, performed together. 'Stahl auf Stahl' is a powerful medieval metal banger and an exciting experiment for both WARKINGS and SUBWAY TO SALLY – one that can truly be called a success!”
While WARKINGS had this to say about SUBWAY TO SALLY:
“Joining the legendary Eisheilige Nacht-tour with Subway to Sally is like marching into battle with the mightiest warriors by our side! And to make it even more epic, we forged 'Stahl auf Stahl', an anthem of steel and fire that will echo through the halls of Valhalla—and every stage we conquer together. Where are Warkings and Subway To Sally Touring?
Now, unfortunately, this tour is only going to be held in Europe but it is a good opportunity for fans in those countries to go check out this life show which looks to be a life changing experience. But hopefully this is the start of a new era for SUBWAY TO SALLY. One that will help them grow their fanbase. I, for one, would love to see them over here. But only time will tell.
